The pages of this site are free and will stay free : an official fact belongs to no one. What is sold here is the compilation work — extracting the Kansas WWC-5 register, reconciling it, dating it, and delivering it in a usable form.
Why the stream, not the snapshot
Records are added as wells are drilled and as plugging reports come in. A snapshot says where the register stood one morning; the difference between two says which parcels just gained a plugging report and which just gained a well. For anyone holding land, that difference is the whole signal.
What is in it
Every field below is measured on the delivered rows, not estimated. A ⚠️ marks a column the source service does not contain.
| Field | Description | Filled |
|---|---|---|
wwc5_number | The Survey's record number — the unique key | 100.0 % |
status | Constructed, Plugged or Reconstructed, verbatim | 100.0 % |
plugged | ⚠️ ⚠️ 1 where a WWC-5P plugging report was filed — 65,264 of them | 100.0 % |
no_plugging_record | ⚠️ ⚠️ 1 where none was. NOT a claim that the well is abandoned — see the field note below | 100.0 % |
county | ⚠️ County, case-normalised | 100.0 % |
water_use | Water use, verbatim | 100.0 % |
contractor | ⚠️ ⚠️ Drilling contractor, case-normalised for joining | 99.6 % |
contractor_licence | State licence number, where the record carries one | 37.5 % |
depth_ft | Depth as reported by the driller | 99.5 % |
static_level_ft | Static water level as reported | 84.5 % |
yield_gpm | Estimated yield in gallons per minute | 34.2 % |
completion_date / year / decade | ⚠️ ⚠️ Normalised to ISO from the service's epoch timestamps | 99.9 % |
dwr_number | DWR appropriation number — the thread to a water right | 11.0 % |
county_median_depth | ⚠️ ⚠️ The median depth of the county the well is in — computed here, published nowhere | 100.0 % |
The 6 fields marked ⚠️ do not exist in the source : we add them — a join, a normalisation, or a reconstructed history. That is the part a buyer cannot reproduce by downloading the official file.
⚠️ The source file's owner name is not in this dataset. It is not requested at download and not stored: these are rural parcels, and nothing about the question this register answers requires a name.
⚠️ no_plugging_record means the State has not
been told the well was sealed. It is not a flag for
"abandoned": Kansas defines abandonment by use (unused for two years,
K.A.R. 28-30-7) and this register does not record use. Anyone building a
product on this column must carry that distinction forward.
⚠️ A blank in depth_ft is not a zero, and every
measurement describes the well on the day it was drilled.
What it costs
- Change feed — USD 300 / monthOr USD 3 000 a year. At every collection, what came in, went out or changed since the previous one. This is the part that does not age.
- One slice — USD 90 / monthThe feed restricted to a single county, for those who do not need the rest.
- Full snapshot — USD 4 000, onceThe state of the register on the day of delivery, every field included. Listed last on purpose : a snapshot ages.
