# Terms — wwc5

> What this site is, what it is not, and the conditions the source attaches to its data.

## Terms

An independent site. Not the Survey, not a well inspection, and not a background-check service.

### What this site is

An independent search layer over one public file. Not affiliated with,
endorsed by, or connected to the Kansas Geological Survey, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, or the State of
Kansas.

**This is not a well inspection and not a title
search.** A WWC-5 describes a well on the day it was drilled. It says nothing about whether the water is safe to drink, whether the well still produces, or what condition it is in today. Whether a particular well must be plugged,
and what that costs, is a question for a licensed Kansas well contractor and
for the county.

**No page here says a well is abandoned.**
Kansas defines abandonment by use, and this register does not record use.
Where we report that no plugging record exists, that is exactly what we
mean.

Our copy is dated **2026-08-21**. The register moves as
records are filed and ours does not update itself.

### ⚠️ Not a consumer reporting agency

This site is **not** a consumer reporting agency as defined by
the **Fair Credit Reporting Act** (15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq.), and
nothing published or sold here is a consumer report.

You may not use this site, its pages, its search, its API or any dataset
obtained from it, in whole or in part, as a factor in deciding a person's
eligibility for:

- **employment**, promotion, reassignment or retention;
- **credit** or insurance underwriting;
- **housing** or tenancy;
- any other purpose covered by the FCRA.

Verifying that a licence exists, directly with the issuing authority, is a
different act from screening a person — and where a decision about someone
depends on it, the check belongs with a screening company that operates as a
consumer reporting agency and carries the obligations that come with it.

### Having your record removed

If you are named on this site and would rather not be, [write to us](/contact.md) and we will remove you. You do not have to explain why, and we
will not ask.

Two things this cannot do, and we say so plainly rather than let you find
out later: it does not change the official register, which is where the record
actually lives; and it does not remove you from anyone else's copy of the same
public data.

### The sources, and what they require

This site republishes public registers. Source by source: the licence it is published under, and the condition its publisher sets — read from the publisher's own terms page, on the date shown.

| Source | Licence | What the publisher requires |
|---|---|---|
| Water Wells WWC5 — Kansas Geological Survey, from records filed with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment | Kansas Geological Survey terms of use | The Survey grants the right, without fee, to access, publish, distribute and modify this material, and asks two things in return. First, an attribution quoted word for word, which appears in the footer of every page of this site. Second — and this one shapes what we may write — « The name KGS may not be used in any advertising or publicity to endorse or promote any products or commercial entity »: the Survey is cited here as the source of the data and never as a backer of anything we sell. The Survey also recommends that its data be taken directly from a KGS server rather than through a site that may have changed it, and we say so wherever it matters. Beyond the terms, one limit belongs to the file itself: a WWC-5 records that a well was drilled and what the driller reported that day. It does not record whether a well is still used, and Kansas defines abandonment by use. — Terms read on 2026-08-21, terms |

### Attribution the source requires

The Survey's terms require a citation, and it is quoted here word for word:

The source of this material is the Kansas Geological Survey website at http://www.kgs.ku.edu/. All Rights Reserved.

The same terms provide that the Survey's name may not be used
to endorse or promote a product or a commercial entity. Nothing on this site
— including the [Pro access](/pro.md) and
[Datasets](/data.md) pages — presents the Kansas Geological Survey as
endorsing what we sell. It is cited as the source of the data, and nothing
more.

### Errors

If a page here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. If the underlying
record is wrong we cannot fix that — it has to be corrected with
the Kansas Geological Survey, and our copy follows at the next collection.
